Emergency or Happy Bag

 In addition to tools and equipment needed for each session the Forest School leader will always take an emergency bag with them. This is the happy bag. The happy bag will be the responsibility of the Forest Schools Leader and will be positioned in an obvious place during each of the sessions. Before each session the contents of the bag will be checked by the Forest School leader. The Happy Bag The essential equipment that the Happy Bag contains:

  • First Aid kit

  • Burns kit

  • Emergency procedures.

  • Medical information for each individual along with any necessary medication – inhalers, epi-pens etc.

  • Risk Assessments

  • Mobile phone (checked for working order and battery strength)

  • Clean Water in sealed bottles (min 2)

  • Emergency whistle

  • Emergency Life Blanket (Space / foil blanket)

  • Appropriate Clothing

The non-essential equipment that the Happy Bag contains will vary depending on the time of year and weather conditions and the planned for activities according to the relevant risk assessments and daily risk assessment. First Aid Kit will contain:

  • Contact Cards (location using postcode and OS grid reference)

  • Vinyl / non-latex gloves

  • Bandages

  • Triangular bandages

  • Plasters Wound dressings

  • Eye pads

  • Saline wash

  • Safety pins

  • Individually wrapped adhesive dressings.

  • Tuff cut scissors

  • Individually wrapped anti-bacc moist wipes

  • Face shield

  • Instant ice packs.

     

    Burns kit will contain:

  • 1 x Bandage used to hold dressings in place

  • 1 x Burnshield 10cm x 10cm – apply directly onto the burn

  • 2 x Burnshield Blotts – sachets of liquid to pour directly onto the burn.

  • 2 x Eyewash/Woundwash pods – cleans cuts and grazes and can also be used to rinse dirt from eyes

  • 1 pair of gloves

  • 1 x roll of Microporous tape – holds bandages in place
